The newest guests to The Palms Tropical Oasis are three rare South-American ducks. Three of the cutest little Ringed Teal have landed in their new pool at The Palms Tropical Oasis at Stapeley Water Gardens, just in time for Easter celebrations.
However the three ducks arrival was timed to co-inside with another important celebration, which fewer people may be aware of, namely World Wetlands Day, so Stapeley Water Gardens is the most appropriate of homes!
"Visitors are always interested to hear about exciting conservation projects," said Curator Valda Fillery, "and The Palms is the most exciting of venues to learn about them!” The Zoo Team at the Palms Tropical Oasis pride themselves in creating natural environments to display everything from an impressive collection of spiders to skunks and a rapidly growing Caiman Crocodile! People can't help getting involved after a visit, and the generosity of visitors has helped conservation projects all over the world.
When ideas for the redevelopment of one of the pools at The Palms were discussed, The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at the World famous Slimbridge centre offered to help highlight their phenomenally successful conservation work, and to start things rolling they kindly donated the three ducks. "We intend to add females in the future, so will hopefully have some pretty adorable ducklings before too long" said Valda. "We're thrilled that this project has come together so well, and are really pleased to be able to help such a well respected conservation organisation."
