How Do I Select/Install a Fountain?

When selecting a fountain there are various factors to consider:

1. Certain plants, like water lilies, don't like splashing water. If necessary select a smaller fountain or one with a 'less disruptive' jet, such as a bell jet.

2. Be aware of the potential for water loss on a windy day if your fountain is too big for the pool. The fountain height should always be less than the shortest distance from the jets to the pool edge.

3. Many people run a fountain to oxygenate the water and then turn the pump off at night when it is actually most beneficial.

4. In very small planted ponds it is very easy to over circulate the water when running a fountain and waterfall. In many cases it may be better to select one or the other.

5. If the fountain is a key feature remember that many fountains easily lose their shape in even in a moderate breeze. Consider a more sheltered location or select a heavier spray or geyser jet.
